Over the years, our family has owned or had permanent use of several Hyundai Accent models: a 1997 (4-door sedan, manual), 1998 (5-door hatchback, manual), 2000 (4-door sedan, manual) and now I have a 2002 (4-door sedan, automatic GLS 1.6) model. Here’s what I think of these cars.Comfort — My main bone of contention with this car prior to 2000 was how uncomfortable they were to drive and sit in. The bottom cushions were angled in such a way that you felt like you were sliding onto the floor. The back had absolutely no lumbar support, and I couldn’t find a position where I could drive for more than a 20 minute, without being in pain afterwards. The seats were also positioned very low, making you feel like you’re falling into a pit when getting in, and very hard on your back when getting out. The clutch pedal was placed far too deep inside the cabin, making it uncomfortable for shorter drivers, and on all the manual versions we had, was very difficult to press and engage. However, from the 2000 model on, the newly adjustable seats give lumbar support as well as the ability to adjust the bottom of the seat up in two different ways — from the front or from the back of the seat. My 2002 Accent is automatic so the clutch problem is gone for me. But my husband’s 2000 model seemed to have the same clutch problem. While this newer model isn’t a Peugeot as far as comfort is concerned, I didn’t get back pain with that car, so I’d say this has gotten a whole lot better. In all the models, for the front passengers, there is lots of leg room. However, the back seats have practically no leg room to speak of — even when short me has the seat all the way forward. The car looks wide on the outside, but on the inside, three in the back seat are very cramped — even if they are kids! Not much changed with the 2002 model, but since the improvement of the seats, while three in the back will still be cramped, they won’t be quite as uncomfortably cramped as before.Convenience — From the 1998 model, we had electric windows — but only for the front windows. The 2002 has both front and rear electric windows. The problem with the earlier models’ electric windows was that the buttons were located just below the gear shift. I found this very strange and I’ve often hit the wrong button or will go to shift while my passenger’s hand is adjusting their window and the gear shift hit their hand. The 2002 model fixed this problem and the buttons for the windows are now on the armrest of the door Category:Home › Other • Pomegranates: A newly discovered superfood • Where did the joke why did the chicken cross the road come from and why is it funny? • Can mothers diagnosed with bipolar disorder make good parents? • Spiritual evolution of human consciousness • Tips for getting a college basketball scholarship • Living with Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) • Caring for the caregiver • Technologys impact on society
